But the information landscape is a mess. Manufacturers make inflated claims. State laws are changing rapidly. And most "solar guides" are written by affiliates who get paid per sale, not per accurate recommendation.
PlugInSolarUS exists to fix that. We are an independent editorial resource — funded by affiliate commissions but never editorially influenced by them — dedicated to giving every American honest, actionable information about plug-in solar.
Most brands claim 1–3 year payback. Our calculator, based on real EIA utility rate data, shows 5–8 years is more realistic for most US locations. We'd rather be honest than popular.

Every factual claim links to a primary source — legislation text, EIA rate databases, or peer-reviewed research. No anonymous 'studies' or manufacturer-provided data without verification.
We focus on the 44 million Americans who rent. Homeowners have dozens of solar resources. Renters have almost none. We're changing that.
